NEW EDUCATION DISPENSATION

The new outcomes based educational framework for estate agents is contained in the Regulations Relating to the Standard of Training of Estate Agents which was published in the Government Gazette on 4 June 2008 and came into operation on 15 July 2008.

From 15 July 2008 All Existing Estate Agents and Interns need to obtain a qualification in order to continue practicing after the end of December 2011.

Existing Estate Agents [non-principal] and Interns:

QUALIFICATION ID 59097Further Education & Training [FET] Certificate Real Estate: NQF Level 4
Applicable to all existing Estate Agents [non-principal] and Interns who are employed by an Estate Agency Business.

New Entrants [Interns] in the Real Industry are subject to the following:

  • candidates have to study for, be assessed on and found competent, to attain the Qualification 59097 FET Certificate Real Estate:  NQF 4
  • register with an existing Estate Agency Business and complete a 12 month Internship under the active supervision of a Principal Estate Agent
  • write a final summative examination, the Professional Designation Exam [PDE] if not in possession of a Valid Fidelity Fund Certificate [FFC] issued by the EAAB for a continuous period of a minimum of 5 years on 15 July 2008

Existing Estate Agents [non-principal] who were in possession of a valid [FFC] on 15 July 2009

can obtain the above Qualification through:

  • Full or Partial Exemption 

  • Recognition of Prior Learning [RPL] – SELF STUDY
    A 3 Day Info Session with an Accredited Training Provider and then through self study
    and research, build a Portfolio of Evidence [PoE] which is then handed in for Assessment.
    Time Period:   3/4/6 Months 
  • Full Training – CLASSROOM TRAINING
    Learners attend 6 Contact Sessions over a period of six months.  Sessions are from 3 – 5 days per Contact Session and Learners are supplied with material and literature and guided in building a [PoE] which is handed in for Assessment.
    Time Period:     7 -9 Months

QUALIFICATION ID 20188National Certificate Real Estate NQF5
Principal Estate Agents [Owning their own Real Estate Business] and in possession of a Principal Valid Fidelity Fund Certificate on 15 July 2008

Can obtain the above Qualification through:  

  • Full or Partial Exemption 
  • Recognition of Prior Learning [RPL] – SELF STUDY
     A 3 Day Info Session with an Accredited Training Provider and then through self study and research, build a Portfolio of Evidence [PoE] which is then handed in for Assessment.
    Time Period:   3/4/6 Months 
  • Full Training -  CLASSROOM TRAINING
    Learners attend 5 Contact Sessions over a period of 5 months. Sessions are 5 Days each and Learners are supplied with material and literature. Each Contact Session is followed by a 2 Day Portfolio of Evidence [PoE] building session in which Learners are guided through the process of building a [PoE] which is handed in for Assessment.
    Time Period: 6 – 9 months

Notes:

  • Estate Agents who were in possession of a valid Fidelity Fund Certificate on 15 July 2008 with a minimum, continuous period of 5 years, will be exempt from writing the Professional Designation Examination [PDE] at the end of 2011
  • Estate Agents who were in possession of a valid Fidelity Fund Certificate on 15 July 2008 and at the end of December 2011 are:
  1. not exempt from obtaining the Qualifications and
  2. have not submitted a [PoE] for Assessment,

will not be issued with a Fidelity Fund Certificate for 2012 – by the EAAB
